The apatite deposits from which the products are processed are not extensive, nor are they available in large quantities. The natural mineral has a green to green-blue color, while the processed mineral undergoes a heat treatment that gives it a rich and intense blue color. Natural apatite is less shiny, has darker colors and is considered by regional owners of stone workshops to be of lower quality.

Blue apatite is a phosphate-based mineral with a Mohs hardness of 5. It is a fairly hard stone, but there are some tips for caring for it. It may have cracks, so it is not recommended to soak it in water for a long time. It is also best not to expose it to direct sunlight as the color may fade.
